junexv is an ongoing photography project by visual artist Milica Le Varlet (b. 1990, Belgrade, Serbia). During her studies of textile design, she initially turned to photography as a tool to help develop her assignments. Her practice expanded in 2010 after she started to chronicle her visual musings through a personal digital journal online.
Milica’s approach to photography is that of a painter. She makes the process itself a central figure in her work. Embracing the technical limitations and the irregularities of the medium, she proposes another perspective on existence and its dynamic, but transient nature. Both in her photography and painting practice, she explores the space between tangible environments and (internal) states of being, treating the spatial reality as an anthropomorphic witness to a quiet portrait of life.
Milica holds a BA in Textile and fashion design from the University of Belgrade. Her work has been shown at notable exhibitions at the Suluj Gallery and the Academy of Textile Design, Technology and Management in Belgrade and recognized through various physical and digital publications globally including Grazia, MTV Fora, Elle and Buro 24/7. She currently resides and works in Toulouse, France. Her painting catalogue can be consulted here.
